Andrew has been Goole’s MP since 2010. On becoming a Member of Parliament, he served on the Health Select Committee, Northern Ireland Affairs Committee and the Regulatory Reform Committee. He was also previously appointed to the House of Commons Speaker’s Panel of Chairs – whose members chair certain committees and debates.

In July 2016, Andrew was appointed Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth at the Department for Communities and Local Government and served in this role until June 2017.

Andrew is currently active on a number of All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG), including the APPG on Surrogacy, which he chairs, and the APPG against Antisemitism, in which he is a co-chair. In his spare time, Andrew is a Community First Responder with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. He spends weekends volunteering responding to emergency calls such as strokes, and cardiac arrests.

Andrew said “The Government’s Town Deal programme, and Goole’s inclusion in it, means that we have the opportunity to fully consider the next set of big improvements for the town. Within the Town Deal I am very keen to see that we address issues in the town centre, access to training and employment, and the improvements that really matter to the people and businesses of Goole.”
