The Goole 2026 community group aims to celebrate Goole’s 200th birthday with a programme of events and festivals, having consulted with the community to share thoughts and develop ideas.   

It’s anticipated that the programme of celebrations will feature a range of professionally-led culture and arts events mixed with community events throughout 2026, as well as momentum-building events during 2025 in the run-up to the bicentenary year. Some community organisations will also deliver their regular and annual events under the Goole 2026 bicentenary banner.   

The Goole 2026 group has been working with Goole & District Lions representative Anne-Marie Holmes and local schools to design a logo and a staggering 291 creative entries have been received, some focusing on the town’s buildings, history and heritage and others on the many things that children love about Goole.  

 A top twenty was chosen by Goole 2026 group members for display at Goole Library, where residents are now being asked to choose their three favourite designs. The children who produced the top ten designs will each receive a prize sponsored by Goole & District Lions, and the winning entry will be used as the logo for the Goole 2026 Bicentenary community group in all of its publicity and communications.

Stephen Walker, Chair of the Group said: “I’m delighted with the range of designs submitted, they’re all very creative and it’s been difficult to choose just 20 for the exhibition.”   

Anne-Marie Holmes added: “I’d like to thank all the children who submitted an entry to the competition, they’ve all been so wonderful to look through. We’ll be thinking about how some can be used in other ways to celebrate the bicentenary too so watch this space.”
