Breheny Civil Engineering, the contractor responsible for delivery of the Public Realm project, has shared the following progress update:
Boothferry Road precinct
Breheny is currently working in front of business premises along either side of the precinct. Pedestrians are using the newly-paved central areas and will continue to do so as work continues on the sections closer to the buildings.
Work immediately outside the doorways of business premises will be completed outside of their opening hours, ensuring that they can remain open at all times. Although there will inevitably be some inconvenience to businesses during this period, every effort is being made to keep this to a minimum.
The prolonged period of rainfall during January and early February has impacted upon the rate of progress. The Breheny team apologises for these unavoidable delays and is working hard to catch up.
During early March, they will move on to areas further along Boothferry Road, where the paving work and installation of tree pits is less intensive so will take less time to complete.
Breheny’s Public Liaison Officer, Neil Hallam, and site supervisors are working closely with business owners to try to ensure that the work can be completed with as little inconvenience to them as possible.
North Street
North Street will be closed to traffic in both directions, between the junction with Aire Street and the Clocktower roundabout, until mid-March. Traffic can still access Aire Street from North Street and sign-posted diversion is in place for through traffic. This is to enable paving work to take place on both sides of North Street.
The prolonged period of rainfall has affected progress here too, but Breheny is moving resources in an effort to catch up.
A pedestrian route is provided along the closed section of road, and access will be maintained to business entrances. Work immediately outside the doorways of business premises will be completed outside their opening hours, ensuring that they can remain open.
Estcourt Terrace
Breheny is now working on the footpath alongside the Market Hall. Removal of site infrastructure around the Market Hall delayed the start of work in this area, but resources are being redeployed to help the team catch up. This work will take approximately ten weeks to complete.
When North Street re-opens, Breheny will be able to start work on the eastern (library) side of Estcourt Terrace. This work will be carried out in sections, starting with the section between Stanley Street and Estcourt Street. They will then move on to the section surrounding the library.
The exact dates for this will depend on the progress made with other sections. Members of the Breheny team will visit and provide updates to local businesses as work progresses.
Paradise Place and Junction Goole
Work here has been postponed in order to prioritise the Market Hall area. Breheny will provide a further update and visit businesses in the area before work begins. As with all other other work areas, pedestrian access routes to businesses will be maintained at all times during their hours of operation.
