During the week commencing 26 January, Breheny’s team will begin working in front of business premises along either side of its current work area. Pedestrians will be able to use the newly-paved areas, allowing the contractors to work on the sections closer to the buildings.
Work immediately outside shop doorways will be completed outside their opening hours, so that they can remain open. There will, inevitably, be some disruption as the team works either side of doorways, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum. By late February, Breheny will be moving on to areas further along Boothferry Road. The paving work is less intensive in these areas, so will take less time to complete. Public Liaison Officer Neil Hallam and the site supervisors will work with local businesses to try to keep disruption to a minimum.
North Street will be closed to traffic in both directions, between the junction with Aire Street and the Clocktower roundabout, until the end of February. Traffic can access Aire Street from North Street, and a diversion is signposted for through traffic. This is to make it possible for both sides of North Street to be paved. A pedestrian route is provided along the closed section of road, and access to business entrances will be maintained at all times. Breheny is now working on the footpath alongside Market Hall, which will take approximately ten weeks to complete. When North Street re-opens, they will be able to start work on the eastern (library) side of Estcourt Terrace. This work will be done in sections, starting with the area between Stanley Street and Estcourt Street. They will then move on to the section surrounding the library. The exact timing of this work will depend on the progress made with other sections. Breheny will visit businesses in each area to provide updates as work progresses.
Work will start in this area in late February or early March, once Breheny’s team members can be released from their current work on Boothferry Road and North Street. As with the other work areas, pedestrian access routes to businesses will be maintained during their business hours.
