A Goole-based business has boosted its turnover after upskilling its workforce with the help of Opportunity Goole, which is funded by Goole Town Deal.
Andrews Automation, a specialist in the design, manufacture and installation of integrated conveyor and materials handling systems, which is based on Goole’s Grange Road Industrial Estate, was able to access free specialist TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal Programming 2 training for two of its engineers.
This enabled the business to secure additional work at different locations for high profile customers. It also resulted in the business significantly increasing its turnover, as well as boosting the skillset of its engineers and helping to safeguard jobs.

Vivianne Butler-Hearne, Officer Manager for the business, explained: “We already had one member of staff who was proficient in this type of programming. However, after chatting with the Opportunity Goole team, we found out that they could help us access further training at no cost to the business. This enabled us to upskill two more engineers so that they were also qualified to deliver this type of work, and means that we now have three portal programming-trained team members, who are all able to work at different locations.
“When we only had one member of staff with those skills, he was often overstretched, so having that extra capacity has made it possible for us to take on more of this type of work for our high profile customers, with our three portal programming-qualified engineers all working at different locations at any one time.”
Vivianne continued: “The support of Opportunity Goole has added value and had a genuine impact across the board; our engineers are now better qualified, which is fantastic for their CVs, and our turnover has grown, which has also helped to safeguard jobs for the future.
“Opportunity Goole is a great help to small to medium enterprises, and I’d definitely recommend that other local businesses make contact with the team.”
